Study on Family Screenings
The Lithuanian short film agency Lithuanian Shorts presents an innovative three-year study (2022–2024) aimed at exploring the significance of non-commercial film programmes and the demand for high-quality educational content for parents. The study, “Developing Attendance Traditions for Non-Commercial Family Film Screenings”, seeks to understand how Lithuanian families with primary school children perceive and value non-commercial cinema, as well as how to foster children’s interest in high-quality educational content.
The main objectives are to gain a deeper understanding of family needs and to provide recommendations for how European auteur cinema for children and their parents can establish a presence in Lithuania’s non-commercial cinemas and festivals. This research invites a rethinking of cinema’s role in family life, ensuring that important educational and cultural values are not overshadowed by the entertainment industry.
Research was led by researcher and educational expert Gintarė Gilaitienė.
Results from the first phase of the study “Developing Attendance Traditions for Non-Commercial Family Film Screenings” can be found here, and results from the second phase can be found here (both publications are in Lithuanian language only).
