Short Film Day
The Short Film Day originated in France in 2012 as a celebration of short films and their diverse range of styles and themes. The event has seen a steep increase in participation, with over fifty countries now taking part worldwide. Screenings are held in various locations to reach a wider audience, with each participating venue having the freedom to design its own event.
In 2016, Lithuania became a part of the Short Film Day celebration. At the initiative of “Lithuanian Shorts”, cinema enthusiasts can enjoy a diverse range of the best Lithuanian and international short films through various short film programs. In the week leading up to 21 December, the agency organizes special screenings for kids in educational institutions, schools, and public libraries. Additional screenings are held in cinemas showcasing best contemporary Lithuanian short films, special programmes are streamed on National TV and local VoD platforms.
In addition to the special screenings, “Lithuanian Shorts” presents an award to the Lithuanian short film that has achieved the widest international circulation and has been selected for the highest number of film festivals. The award is accompanied by a monetary prize established by the Audiovisual Works Copyright Association (AVAKA).
