Director's biography

Pijus Mačiulskis

Pijus Mačiulskis is an independent film director from Lithuania who has been active since 2015. He is currently a Film Studies student at King’s College London, learning about the theoretical, social, and philosophical evolution of cinema. He also creates electronic music. His independent short films have been shown at 14 International Film Festivals and have received awards such as “Best foreign entry” at the 2017 CSFF in the US and “Best Cinematography” at the 2017 International Abasha Short Film Festival in Georgia.

Two of his short films, “Butter” (2016) and “Idea” (2017) were selected to be kept and distributed in the collection of the Lithuanian short and feature film foundation Kino Fondas. In 2020, Pijus was chosen to represent Lithuania in the official jury of Giornate degli Autori at the Venice International Film Festival. He has also been invited to spend a week with and learn from the Polish film director, Krzysztof Zanussi.
