Marija Nemčenko

Marija Nemčenko (www.marijanemcenko.com) is a Lithuanian artist working between Lithuania and Scotland. Marija received her BA in Sculpture from University of the Arts London in 2013 and her MA in Visual Arts from Glasgow School of Art in 2016. She is a co-founder of BRUT Collective. Marija Nemčenko’s research activates cultural interlinks between Eastern and Central Europe and the Middle East, which she explores through the questions of migration, cultural stereotypes, and historic parallels. Looking critically at the construct of a ‘periphery’, the artist asks what knowledge arises from these ‘peripheral points’? Marija’s work is marked by high contrast and humour driven by these clashes, as well as the bright and eclectic aesthetics of the everyday.
