Short Film Conference panel: Inclusive Cinema
(G. Cegialytė presenting Vilnius Short Film Festival accessibility case)
Short films are for everyone, but how do festivals ensure that we are creating environments capable of welcoming everyone to the short film party? Catering to people with different types of accessibility needs and abilities is crucial. As is including this community in the conversation from the start. In this panel discussion we will explore some of the barriers to enjoying film festivals that people living with disabilities can face, and ways to break these down. We will look at the challenges of using non-traditional venues, and the opportunities provided by technology such as closed captions and audio descriptions. The desire to be all-inclusive can sometimes clash with budgetary realities, but there are small steps that we can all begin together. Join our panel of representatives from short film festivals that are making strong progress in this area, to hear about their journey. If you’re looking to make your own festival more inclusive or want to help give suggestions about how we can make festivals better, this panel is for you.
